About this watch
The extremely rare Ref. 2570 “Amagnetic” by Patek Philippe was launched in 1955 and, according to our research, was only in production for one year. The Ref. 2570 was the first commercialised “Amagnetic” wristwatch from Patek Philippe and the predecessor of the famous Ref. 3417.
The few known examples of the Ref. 2570 were made exclusively in 1955, and it is not known whether production continued for another year. Ref. 2570, like the current timepiece, was mainly manufactured in 18 carat yellow gold. Only one of the known watches was crafted in 18 carat rose gold.
The case design differs from its successor with its sharp edges but also show the characteristic wide apart lugs giving the watch a contemporary presence on the wrist.
Several dial configurations are known but it is believed among scholars that the dial shown in this watch was the original one with an oversized subsidiary second and – but for now not bearing the famous “Amagnetic” Signature (see Sterm Frères archive picture). The dial has a classical calatrava-like opalin-satin finished, engraved-enamelled with a gold applied Arabic 12, 3 and 9 and bâton hour indexes and golf feuille hands.
The watch is powered by a calibre 12”400 AM covered by the soft metal cover bearing the engraved case number.
This watch is not only extremely rare but both the case and dial are very attractive and well preserved. It will for sure attract any serious collector’s attention.
Detailed information can be found in “Un guide de la Montre-Bracelet Patek Philippe Amagnetic”.
In 1956 – only one year after the launch – Ref. 2570 was replaced by the 2570-1 in 1956 that came with a new case and dial design and was powered by the 27-400 AM movement from 1960 until the end of production.
