About this watch

The reference 3448 is one of Patek Philippe’s most well-known perpetual calendar timepieces and, thanks to its angular, architecturally designed case, also one of the most easily recognizable. Launched in 1962, it was the first self-winding wristwatch with a perpetual calendar.

Manufactured in 1968, the present time piece  radiates the extraordinary charm of the 1960s models, most notably demonstrated by the first series dial, blessed with the subtle hard enamel printing but also instantly recognizable by the pearled minute markings, perfectly harmonizing with the ivory tone of the charismatic dial. Free of any visible restoration, it reflects a great shine and enhances the overall look of this superb wristwatch. Of the 586 pieces of the Patek Philippe Ref. 3448 made only 28 pieces could be identified with this Type 1 case and Type 1 dial making it one of the most rare reference 3448 combination existing.

The stunning overall condition, is further enhanced by the hand engraved stock number T-7221 underneath the lug indicating this to be sold by Tiffany & Co. NYC. The inside of the case back bear the HOX engraving, which further states the sale of this watch to the USA.

With a completely untouched and crips case this watch is the unique opportunity to have an example like the one offered here, to feel the sharp lines and edges in your hands exactly as they were originally drawn and created by the case maker at the time. You can clearly call this the “benchmark” of 3448 Type 1 case.

Powered with the celebrated calibre 27-460, amongst the most sophisticated and lavish automatic movements ever made. It was later upgraded with Patek Philippe’s patented perpetual mechanism fitted on the movement plate underneath the dial and renamed 27-460 Q.

This watch is not only extremely rare but both the case and dial are very attractive and well preserved. It will for sure attract any serious collector’s attention. A real “trophy” watch!
